A resin-bound stone carpet is one of the lowest-maintenance surfaces you can put outside a house. Low maintenance is not zero maintenance, though. Ten minutes a month keeps it looking new for years.
The basic routine
| How often | What to do |
|---|---|
| Weekly or as needed | Sweep leaves, sand and dust with a stiff outdoor broom |
| Every 1–3 months | Wash with a garden hose; a soft brush for marked areas |
| Once or twice a year | Low-pressure wash with a fan nozzle |
| Immediately | Blot oil, fuel, wine or paint spills |
Why sweeping matters most
The surface is permeable: water drains through the gaps between the stones. In Cyprus, wind-blown dust and sand fill those gaps over time. Regular sweeping keeps the surface draining and stops dirt building up where seeds could root.
Pressure washing: yes, but gently
- Use a fan nozzle, never a pencil jet
- Keep the lance at least 30 cm from the surface
- Work at a shallow angle, moving constantly
A powerful jet held close can dislodge stones from the edges.
Stains
- Oil and fuel: blot quickly, then warm water and a mild, resin-safe degreaser
- Rust marks from furniture: lift the source, wash, and ask us before using rust removers
- Leaves and tree sap: wash with warm water and a soft brush
- Avoid: strong solvents, thinners and acid cleaners
Moss and algae in shaded areas
Shaded, damp corners can grow a green film in winter. Brush it off and wash. For stubborn growth, use a diluted, non-acidic outdoor cleaner and rinse well.
What to avoid
- Dragging heavy metal objects or skip bins across the surface
- Turning car wheels on the spot during the first weeks after installation
- Lighting barbecues or fire pits directly on the resin
- De-icing salts (rarely needed in Cyprus, but avoid them)
When to call us
Contact us if you see loose stones at an edge, a crack that follows a crack in the base below, or an area that stays wet after rain. Small repairs blend in well when done early.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a pressure washer on resin stone carpet?
Yes, on a low-to-medium setting with a fan nozzle held at least 30 cm away. Never use a narrow jet close to the surface.
Will weeds grow through it?
Weeds cannot grow up through a properly laid resin-bound surface. Seeds that land on top can occasionally root in dirt, which regular sweeping prevents.
How do I remove an oil stain?
Blot fresh oil immediately, then use warm water and a mild degreaser with a soft brush. Avoid strong solvents, which can damage the resin.
